Hey Concert Orchestra!

Here's a recording of the Brandenburg. Have a listen to the style, tempo, phrasing. Remember our piece is an arrangement of this work, so there are parts that won't be in your music, but do your best to follow along. A few weeks of hard work ahead, keep your eye on December 11th!

Congrats to Crystal Koon for being the 40th member, she has been moved off the waiting list into the group proper!

Have an awesome summer everyone.

If you have missed the one day to return your uniform, you can give it to Mr. Lum or Ms. Kelson, BUT you will not get your $5 deposit back.

the music teachers
We will not be having a rehearsal Monday June 4th because I will be doing AMR testing.  We will meet at 8am on Monday, June 11th in MR1 to run through the music one more time before we go over to SAM to perform.  Please wear a black shirt (can be t-shirt or ACI music clothing) and dark bottoms (can be shorts, capris, pants etc.).

Miss Lintott
Hi Madrigals,

The teachers from Kenya we sang for last fall want a video tape of us singing The Size Of My Heart to use at their music festival in African, how cool is that?

Can we all meet on this Tuesday, June 5 to video tape it in the auditorium?  We will talk about this in class on Monday, but we will have handed back our uniforms by that time so perhaps we can wear all black just to look somewhat the same?

It should only take us about 15 minutes...

mrp!
Hi guys and girls from Influence 11,

You are responsible for playing the following for your final playing test:

All musicians are reminded to wear their Agincourt C. I. UNIFORMS tomorrow for our exciting MLK performance at Roy Thompson Hall.

We realize that you had a very long day today, but please reflect on the following tomorrow:

Roy Thompson Hall is where the Toronto International Film Festival Gala takes place.

This means that the likes of Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Robert De Niro, Woody Allen, Madonna and Stephen Spielberg, (the list goes on and on...) have walked across that brown wood you are standing/sitting on.

Leonard Bernstein conducted the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra playing Mahler on that stage shortly before his passing.

Wynton Marsalis, Brandford Marsalis, and Herbie Hancock, have played Jazz together on that stage.

Placido Domingo and Jessie Norman have sung opera on that stage.

The Canadian premiere of Andrew Loyld Weber's REQUIEM MASS was performed on that stage, with the TSO and the late Elmer Isler on the podium.

Bernadette Peters has sung and danced excerpts from her most famous musicals on that stage.

Russel Peters and Robin Williams have done stand up from that stage.

Recently Jack Layton's State Funeral was held on that stage.

...and tomorrow YOU will get to perform there.

Make sure you take a moment and let that opportunity sink in, it may not come again.

Nite nite!

The aci music staff.

Vivaldi Concerto in D Major
Here is a performance of LAY A GARLAND that you can practice with.

It performed by the Cambridge Singers and conducted by Sir John Rutter.

Notice the sweeping crescendos that occur, the open, yet bright vowel shapes, and the way they sing "Maiden's Willow Branches"...  there's a lovely rit. at the end we will add as well!

This is EXACTLY the style we have been going for so practice this interpretation for next week!

Those who don't have rehearsal MUST pick up their citrus by 5:30 Wednesday evening.

All citrus orders must be taken by Wednesday so that MR2 can return to a functioning classroom.

All vocalists please take note of the following new additions to our calendar.

On December 7th in the morning the MADRIGALS SINGERS will be bussed to the board to sing for a group of Kenyan educators.  We will perform Di Nasi Po and The Size Of Your Heart.  Come to school in uniform that day.

On December 15 all Grade 11 and 12 students in the Agincourt Singers will sing the accompaniment part in SONG FOR CANADA at the SAM concert with the SAM choir.  This is a great opportunity to advertise our program for the SAM students.  We will probably sing a couple of our own pieces as well on that concert.
Hey everyone!  Please check out the VOCAL tab at http://agincourtmusic.blogspot.com/ to practice for the upcoming MLK show!

If you see any Madrigal Singers in the hall who were in the choir last year, congratulate them for winning the 2011 Leslie Bell Choir award from the Canadian Music Educators Association. This award is only given out every 2 years so it is very prestigious.  Way to go Mads!  You can see the plaque in the music showcase.
